A BRIEF HISTORY OF BAKLAVA

No one knows the true origins of baklava. What we can say is, the dessert took its elaborate forms during the Ottoman period, with written evidence in the Topkapı Palace kitchen notebooks beginning in 1473.

A dessert of the sultans, baklava became synonymous with wealth and sophistication as well as a state tradition. During this time, baklava became the dessert of celebration being offered.

Today, baklava is no longer only a dessert for the rich, having become an irreplaceable gift for every kind of celebration. In Turkey, every birth, visit, wedding, graduation is accompanied by boxes of baklava.

WHO ARE WE?

La Turka was founded in 2012 with the passion of reintroducing tasty and high quality Turkish Deserts to Europe. Our decision was to start with the flagship of Turkish Desserts, Baklava. Baklava is a very special treat for many cultures from Balkans, Mediterranean to Central Asia. Every culture has their own twist on it but we stick to what we know and grew up with, Turkish Baklava…

Our home country is Croatia. Since 2012 our delivery chain has been growing rapidly every passing day. We are very sensitive about what we eat. That’s why all the ingredients we use are authentic and natural. We refined our production to use the thinnest pastries, filled with beautiful and tasty ingredients.
